Starlit Screen

Projector brightness calculator

Enter the ANSI lumens from the spec sheet, your screen's diagonal and its gain. Use a gain of 1.0 for a plain matte white screen if you don't know it.

Screen area: –
Picture brightness: –

The formula: foot-lamberts = ANSI lumens × gain ÷ screen area in square feet. For example, 1,000 lumens on a 100 inch 16:9 screen (about 29.7 sq ft) at gain 1.0 gives about 33.7 foot-lamberts. This is a calculation from the rated figure, not a test: real brightness is often lower, and light around you washes the picture out. Need the standing distance? Use the throw distance chart.
